PRESS: Number of malicious elements in open source software leaps

MOSCOW, Jun 6 (PRIME) -- The number of uncovered malicious elements in open source software has soared since February, and Russian antivirus maker Kaspersky has found at least 100 such attachments in foreign software with an open source on different platforms, business daily Kommersant reported on Monday.

The number of tabs in open source, or malicious elements designed on purpose, has jumped by 20 times since February, a representative of a large cybersecurity company told the daily. This tool was not earlier popular among hackers.

A Kaspersky representative said that tabs “contain, among others, provocative content or calls for any actions.” Tabs usually have political motives.

Alexander Donin, a leading expert on import substitution at firm Croc, said that the actions vary from plain hooliganism to embedding of virus encoders.
